MICHELA LARSON

A Short Biography of the Restauranteur behind Mod Espresso.

As the restaurateur behind MOD Espresso, Michela Larson once again taps into exactly what people crave and builds the reality around it. At Mod Espresso, Michela creates a new kind of space, one that brings together the timeless style of Modern Relik with a punch of creative, artisanal cuisine and classic Italian coffee. Michela’s reputation precedes her. A harbinger of Boston’s thriving food scene, she operates with a healthy dose of risk-taking and a sixth sense for knowing exactly what people want to eat and how they want to experience it. Since 1985, she successfully had brought to life six restaurants by seeking out emerging neighborhoods, unearthing award-winning chefs before they were household names, and earning awards for the restaurants and her vision along the way.

Her first venture, a cozy Italian spot named Michela’s, saw James Beard award winners like Chef Todd English, Chef Jody Adams, and pass through her kitchen and on to stellar careers. She then partnered with Chef Jody Adams and two others to create The Sapphire Restaurant Group, which opened Rialto, a Harvard Square institution; Noir bar at The Charles Hotel; blu in downtown Boston; and Rocca in Boston’s South End. Venturing out on her own again, Michela is now a sought-after restaurateur who lends her magic touch to new dining concepts as an advisor. Michela currently owns and operates the blue at the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Florida. Michela was a co-founder and is a current Board Member of Community Servings, a New England regional food charity that serves medically-tailored, made from scratch meals to families with critical and chronic illnesses.

“It’s a beautiful little coffee bar. The coffee is European and consistent and delicious all the time,” Larson says.
