The wood used is taken from as close to the heart of the tree as possible. The plank is cut into round blanks and then turned on a lathe. The Coupe is finished in using Yakisugi or Shou-Sugi-Ban -- an old Japanese technique of burning wood to protect it from moisture and pests. Using a torch, the ash coupe is charred and then cleaned with steel wool. Finally, it is oiled, giving it a dark lustre. Each piece is unique, with slight variations in size and grain, and can take up to ten days to make.

Made in France.
