Gilles Caffier was born in France and studied textile and fashion design. He started his textile career in the Parisian couture, Yves Saint Laurent and Paco Rabanne were among his clients. He moved to Tokyo at 22 and became an international fashion school art director and a few years later he opened his design studio. In 1996 his first collection is featured at Joseph in London. He attracted the attention of the design and interior visionaries as well as the international press.
Caffier creates sculptures, vases, and lamps that are made from the most unique materials like leather lamps, sea-urchin, and coral-like vessels, often spikey, holey ceramics. His objects have movement and lots of dimensions. His previous history in textiles shines through in the experimental materials that he uses on his vessels, lamps, and objects.
Gilles has been designing for over 20 years, and his work has been seen in galleries, homes, and businesses around the world. He is best known for his signature vases, which are characterized by a sleek and stylish design that seamlessly blends classic and contemporary elements. Each piece is carefully crafted out of high-quality materials such as marble, ceramics, and glass, ensuring these art pieces blend into interiors for decades to come, not only as objects to use, but as art to admire.
