"The obvious is never obvious", states Michaël Verheyden, reflecting upon the creative process behind each piece - which spans from design to the actual manufacturing. Verheyden takes objects that we use every day: lamps, soap holders, tealights, etc, and creates the most exquisite versions of them from the finest materials possible. Clean lines, smooth surfaces, and elegant textures of suede feel sacred to the touch.
Michael Verheyden is a Belgian designer/artist who has been featured in major museums, galleries, and exhibitions around the world like Pierre Marie Giraud. With an eye for unique and modern styles, he has created a portfolio of exquisite pieces from fine woods, stone, and metals. Born in 1968 in Ghent, Belgium, Michael Verheyden studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent from 1990 to 1995. During his time there, he developed an interest in furniture and product design. After graduation, he moved to the Netherlands to work as an industrial designer for a number of companies. In 2002, he founded his own design studio.
Everything he creates has a modern, minimalistic feel, with a focus on natural materials and shapes. He is passionate about creating pieces that can be used in any contemporary setting, and his designs are often seen in some of the most prestigious hotels and residences across Europe.
Michael Verheyden’s success is largely due to the fact that he takes a holistic approach to design. He believes that the beauty of a piece should be in its form, function, and manufacturing. As such, he puts a great deal of emphasis on the quality of each piece and pays special attention to the details.
In addition to his design studio, Michael Verheyden has also had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most renowned designers in the world. For example, he has worked with Philippe Starck, Dior, and Aston Martin, among others. His work has been featured in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Biennale Internazionale dell’Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy.
His pieces are often considered timeless and have been praised for their quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Shop Michael Verheyden lighting, decor, and furniture online below at Modern Relik.
